My New Year's Resolution, same as last year.
The world tells you that the new year is a fresh start. They hand you a clean slate as if you can truly erase the past and start anew. But I know better. A fresh start is a fantasy. A placebo. The truth? Time doesn’t care about your resolutions. It doesn’t care about your promises to be better, to do better. It just moves forward, and you’re either moving with it, or you’re left behind.
You hear the whispers, don't you? Everyone around you, clinging to their old patterns, their recycled promises. "This year will be different," they say. "This year, I’m going to make changes." But deep down, they know the truth. They're addicted to comfort, to familiarity. The new year? It's just another excuse to stay stagnant, to pretend that they’ll change when, in reality, they’re as predictable as ever.
But not me. I’m different. I’m not like them. I have no intention of slipping back into the ordinary, the expected. I’ll rise, I’ll evolve, and I’ll do what others can’t. It’s the only way forward. I know what’s required of me. The cost? I won’t be liked. I’ll be misunderstood. They’ll say I’ve become ruthless. Cold. Detached. But what they don’t realize is that those labels are the price of progress.
I don’t need approval. I don’t need anyone to tell me I’ve done the right thing. In fact, I prefer it when they don’t understand. Because if they can’t see what I’m doing, then they’ll never catch up. And when they’re left in the dust, clinging to their comfortable illusions, I’ll be somewhere far ahead, where only the worthy are allowed.
So, as the clock ticks over to a new year, I’ll take my free pass. I’ll make the choices others won’t dare to make. And I’ll do it all with a quiet smile, knowing that in the end, the ones who matter will be the ones who made the same sacrifices I did. And the rest? They’ll just be a blur in my rearview mirror.
Let them chase the same dead-end dreams. I’m chasing something far bigger.
